Medford Township Police Chief Anthony Canale announced that the Medford Township Police Department has been awarded a $5,500 grant to continue the “Cops in Shops” program to combat underage drinking. “Cops in Shops” is a proactive approach which places undercover officers in retail liquor establishments to foil the purchase of alcohol by minors as well as to those of legal age who attempt to purchase it for them.
The program is a unique partnership between retailers and law enforcement that helps stop illegal underage alcohol purchases and prevents adults from purchasing for kids. The grant is administered by the New Jersey Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control, with federal funding provided by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention FY08 Enforcing the Underage Drinking Laws Block Grant program.

This program is a joke, what they do is have 4-5 undercover cops at a liquor store. They go from car to car asking individuals for there i.d. and harass anyone coming in and out of the store. I personally had a designated driver under 21(age 20) who stayed in the car while I went to purchase alcohol. While I was in the store they talked to my friend. The cops rushed over to me as soon as i walked out of the store, they kept me and my friend split up and convinced me my friend said we would both be drinking tonight at his house. I knew that wouldn’t be the case because we were going out to a party and he was my designated driver for the night. I agreed to what he said at first and only because I was surprised and taken totally off guard. I then denied my friend would be drinking the alcohol i was purchasing because he really wasn’t, and the undercover police officer kept telling me i was a liar and proceeded to use tricks to make it seem like I was in the wrong. The guy hit me for purchasing alcohol for a minor because he used slick talking, he took total advantage of me as I was only trying to cooperate with him. Now I’m beginning to understand why most people have a problem with Medford police officers.
P.S.- I’m leaving in 4 days to train and serve my country at basic training in Texas. I made this well aware to the medford township police officer who harassed me that I am in the Air Force. I understand he was doing his job to check and make sure I was not providing for minors. But it’s a whole other ball game when you play games with me and trick me into saying what you want to hear, especially because I’m going to be one of the guys protecting this country to make sure he can sleep well at night
