Conversation became somewhat heated at last week’s Council meeting when several residents showed up to voice concern over Berlin-based Mount Construction’s activity on Gravelly Hollow Road.
Roughly a dozen upset residents attended the meeting to voice their concern – most of them hailing from the Pine Pointe development that borders the municipal lot on Gravely Hollow Road where Mount Construction stores equipment, at no cost, under an agreement with the township.
The agreement, initiated in 2006, says that Mount Construction can store trucks and equipment at the lot in exchange for their work in emergency repairs and services – such as repairing roads and damaged water and sewer lines.
The purpose, Councilman Chris Myers said, is to have the equipment close by in the event of an emergency.
Myers said the need to have an emergency contractor on site came after a flood in 2004 when the township was cited by FEMA for not having a contract for emergency services. When another flood came in 2007 – Mount Construction repaired the damages, he said.
Under the agreement, the company was also charged with cleaning up the area where it stores the equipment, which before the clean up was littered with derelict cars and other debris.
The company also graded the site, built a new entrance, built a fence around it and paved it in exchange for using it for storage.

This has been getting some attention lately, and it’s really sad to see how some politicians, looking to further their political careers, can stir the pot enough to create a mountain out of a mole hill.

Mount Construction improved the space they were occupying on Gravely Hollow road. It was an eyesore before they got there, and now it’s beautifully landscaped, you can’t really see the yard from the road now because of the landscaping, they added a side entrance and made it MUCH more presentable.

Mount Construction does a LOT for the community, they give back to local charities, youth sports programs, help needy families etc. I’m talking donating hundreds of thousands of dollars, giving time, effort, etc.

We should be applauding them, not looking for them to leave.. it’s ridiculous.

I agree with MedfordMom43, Mount has been made out to be a villain as part of this election when they have been an excellent neighbor. Medford has an emergency response contractor who has not only proved their value during the last floods but who’s impact in the community is immeasurable.

I also once had a experience with mount – they came in an emergency and ran a water line to our house.
I am quite experienced in business and contracting – and I give these people an A+

I cannot imagine that they would not improve any property that they owned – to being better than it was.

I cannot speak for the town fathers – who are most definitely corrupt at almost all times.
